ATLANTA cops are investigating a double shooting on the south side that left a 2-year-old girl dead and her 1-year-old brother injured. The shooting happened Saturday morning at about 1:40 a.m. on Polar Rock Place. Cops say someone fired at least 2 bullets through the bottom of the door of a red-brick house.
The bullets struck Ty-Teyanna Motley (bottom right) and her brother, Isaiah, (top right) who were sleeping with their grandmother in a sofa bed behind the door, Charlie Howard, the victims’ uncle, told Atlanta’s ABC station.
Howard said he and their other relatives inside the home were awakened by the shots.
Howard found his nephew screaming and soaked in blood. His niece was found unresponsive lying in a puddle of blood.
Howard says Ty-Teyanna, who was shot in the chest, died on the way to Grady Memorial Hospital.
“The 1-year-old male is in stable but critical condition at this time,” police said in a statement.
Howard said Isaiah, undergoing surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, is expected to survive.
Howard said he is appalled by the shooting, especially after 3 years of living at their home without any problems. In addition to Howard, he said there was a total of 7 kids at the home, along with the victims’ mother and grandmother when the shooting happened. In total 17 people were sleeping in the home after a birthday party.
He said the incident makes him fear for his family’s safety.
Detectives said the shooting does not appear to be a drive-by and they are trying to determine a motive in the case.
No arrests have been made and detectives ask anyone with information to contact the Atlanta Police Department.
