Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman reportedly fell off a small cliff while trying to evade special ops forces, according to CNN, who spoke to a Mexican official close to the investigation. The official added that El Chapo, who has been on the run since escaping from prison in July, sustained injuries to his face and a possible broken leg in the fall.

Mexican Marines reportedly spotted the fugitive kingpin in Cosala, which is located in the mountains of Mexico’s Sinaloa state, but they were apprehensive to close in on him while he was first seen walking with a child. After he was seen walking alone the special ops made their move, and Guzman fell off the cliff after the authorities started closing in on him.

El Chapo was ultimately able to escape after his fall when his bodyguards picked him up and carried him through a forrest.
